Amanda Brugel
(February 27 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a sleepy community on that part of the island of Montreal known as"the West Island. Many people unfamiliar with the word frequently think that it's a separate island somewhere in the west of Montreal but in fact it's a part of the city that's west. West Island is home to everything from Lachine west to the city of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel was born there however her stay there was short. Brugel lived in Courtice, just outside of Oshawa. When she was a child, she wanted to be a performer but an unexpected expansion of her body made it impossible. In an interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I am 6 feet 1 inches." After I outgrew the male partners, I quit. Many former dancers turn to acting and in the instance of Brugel, it was a suggestion by her teacher of drama. She was recommended by a teacher to get a role for school's annual play. She was the teacher who suggested that she take on a part in the school's annual show. She was awarded a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to attend York University's Theatre Program which she completed from the program in 2000, earning a degree of Bachelor's in Fine Arts. In the past 20 years, Brugel's work has been seen on both the large and small screen. The most notable was her attention when she won her character of Rita in the acclaimed television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel is the only Canadian actress in the season 1 and only appeared occasionally.
